Josh Koscheck, Nick Diaz?s camp hoping for a bout

Josh Koscheck's last fight was a loss in May to Johny Hendricks. An injury knocked him off UFC 151 before it was canceled. Now that he is healthy again, he is looking for an opponent. Luckily, Nick Diaz's camp made it easy for Koscheck to come up with someone.

UFC president Dana White said that when Diaz comes off suspension, he will need to win a fight before getting a chance at the belt. Diaz lost a tight decision to Carlos Condit for the interim welterweight belt, then was later suspended when his drug test was found positive for marijuana metabolites.

The suspension means a Super Bowl weekend fight is unlikely. Diaz's suspension ends on Feb. 3, the day after the Feb. 2 date of the event that is normally a huge event for the UFC. But even if it's not that weekend, this is an intriguing fight. The amount of trash talking alone will make it fun, as will watching Diaz try to handle Koscheck's wrestling skill.

Do you want to see this fight? Speak up in the comments, on Facebook or on Twitter.

What's Not at the Museum of Broken Relationships: The ...

The six-way marriage (of Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia) lasted for more than four decades before it fell apart in the least amicable way possible.

Cross-posted from JohnFeffer.com. John is currently traveling in Eastern Europe and observing its transformations since 1989.

From the Museum of Broken Relationships. You can find a?Newsweek?cover depicting President Barack Obama with the caption, ?I really wanted it to work out.? There is also a portrait of Ivo Sanader, the former Croatian prime minister. The accompanying note from Kasum Cana, the president of the Croatian Roma Forum, explains that his ?emotional relationship? with Sanader failed because of the latter?s broken promises.

The?Museum of Broken Relationships, located in Zagreb?s Old Town, showcases the artifacts of failed romances, from discarded teddy bears to unsent love letters. Most of these items are personal, and the ?relationship? refers to a tie between two people that has been sundered. Several, like the Obama and Sanader contributions, are overtly political.

But one obvious broken relationship is missing. Perhaps I somehow neglected to visit one of the rooms of the museum, or this item is traveling to some other museum in the world.

A picture of Obama, a portrait of Sanader: but no picture of Yugoslavia? This six-way marriage (of Bosnia, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia) lasted for more than four decades before it fell apart in the least amicable way possible. But the Museum of Broken Relationships has no bumper stickers proclaiming ?After Tito, Tito!,? no little model sculptures dedicated to brotherhood and unity, not even a missive from an abused spouse saying ?I never loved you and good riddance!?

Maybe the end of Yugoslavia was just too obvious a broken relationship to memorialize. Maybe it was too controversial. Or maybe it would have generated enough items to necessitate another entire museum space. After all, ?Yugonostalgia? has been all the rage among a certain class of cognoscenti over the last few years.

In Dubravka Ugresic?s novel? The Ministry of Pain, the main character teaches Serbo-Croatian literature in Amsterdam to a group of mostly former Yugoslav students. At a loss for how to engage the class, she decides to ditch the curriculum and just reminisce with her students. This Yugonostalgia enables them to focus on the ?good old days,? which weren?t necessarily all that good, but at least they can avoid talk of war and hatred. Instead, they go on about cartoons and favorite foods and how they reacted to the death of Tito in 1980. And they meditate on what they have lost.

?The list of things we had been deprived of was long and gruesome,? she writes. ?We had been deprived of the country we had been born in and the right to a normal life; we had been deprived of our language; we had experienced humiliation, fear, and helplessness; we had learned what it means to be reduced to a number, a blood group, a pack.?

I haven?t encountered much Yugonostalgia during my travels across the northern tier of former Yugoslavia. Some people have spoken wistfully of the days when everyone seemed to have enough money for a trip to the coast during the summer, when Yugoslavia was the freest of a set of un-free Eastern European countries, when the music scene was the envy of even many Western Europeans. These virtues aside, the phenomenon of Yugonostalgia comes across as nothing more than Balkan kitsch.

?Slovenia, in fact, is the main producer and main consumer of Yugonostalgia, much more than in Croatia or in other parts,? anthropologist and writer Svetlana Slapsak told me in her apartment in Ljubljana. ?Slovenians are the most prominent Yugonostalgia suckers. I really hate it. Because it?s commercialized, and it buries all the criticism in a deep concrete grave, never to be revealed again. All the former dissident culture is lost in nostalgia. Here in Slovenia it becomes a very simplified version of the reds against the blacks.?

She continued, ?This Yugonostalgia serves as a placebo for desperate people. It destroys not only criticism but also freedom of mind, and it makes people non-active, just consumers of silly things. The Internet is full of Yugonostalgia objects. You can buy the old comic books, periodicals, pictures, paraphernalia, all kinds of rubbish: good for research, bad for the spirit. It?s also about being sentimental for no good reason. We could publish the memoirs of people, which would be as a rule different, diverse and rich in information. But no, we have this uniforming of the past. I?m terribly against this nostalgia, and also the Tito-nostalgia ? except for satirical purposes.?

Even without an entry on former Yugoslavia ? or perhaps because of it ? the Museum of Broken Relationships is a very popular place.

Not so the other museums I visited in Zagreb, and that?s a shame. Because the city is a mecca for contemporary art and artists.

I had an in-depth conversation with the artist Andreja Kuluncic, who has done some wonderfully provocative work, including a set of??Bosnians Out!? posters?that the Ljubljana City Council removed (and then restored after museum protests). I also talked with curator Branko Franceschi, who recently presented a show in New York on the?psychedelic films, visual arts, and music of socialist Yugoslavia?(a critical and zany antidote to Yugonostalgia) and currently has a show up on the surveillance-inflected work of?Croatian artist Zeljko Kipke at the extraordinary fin-de-si?cle Art Pavilion in Zagreb. Both interviews are forthcoming.

The enormous Museum of Contemporary Art in Novi Zagreb opened just a couple years ago, and its permanent collection contains many essential works from around the region. But other than some skateboarders zooming around outside, the place was quite empty on a Sunday afternoon, and I was practically alone to wander through the first-class exhibits. Particularly powerful, Ivan Grubic?s?East Side Story?juxtaposes shocking footage from the anti-LGBT protests in Zagreb and Belgrade with two couples enacting their own tormented drama in public spaces before bewildered onlookers. Mladen Stilinovic?s pink banner proclaims ?An Artist Who Cannot Speak English is No Artist.? And Selja Kameric?s?Bosnian Girl?? ugly graffiti from an unknown UN peacekeeper superimposed on the self-portrait of the artist ? remains as shiver-producing as when I first saw it four years ago.

But perhaps the most remarkable piece I saw in my Zagreb museum-hopping, at the monumental circular pavilion designed by the famous sculptor Ivan Me?trovi?, was not from this region at all. The work by Dutch artist Jonas Staal began with a proposal in Rotterdam by a politician of ethnic Turkish heritage to erect a monument to the guest workers who devoted so much of their lives to building the city. This politician proposed the sculpture for Afrikaanderwijk, a section of the city where immigrants are now the majority and where there were terrible race riots in the 1970s.

Not everyone was enthusiastic about the idea, however. The far-right party ridiculed the proposal. There should be a monument to all the hard-working native Rotterdammers, the party representatives argued, particularly the ones ?chased out? of Afrikaanderwijk.

Jonas Staal set to work. The result was a mock-up of a?Monument for the Chased-off Citizen of Rotterdam, a 3-D computer animation that he showed to the right-wing politicians. One of them?remarked, ?Well, this isn?t what we expected. I don?t know if this was done on purpose, but it isn?t really out to provoke us. It?s simply being objective. I think it is beautiful!? Beautiful it may be, but the overall project definitely challenges the assumptions of the nativists.

The work is also an important reminder that racism and xenophobia is deeply entrenched throughout Europe, not just on the eastern periphery. And nostalgia for a ?simpler? and ?less contentious? time is not just sentimental, but potentially dangerous as well.

Syrian army declares conditional Eid ceasefire

BEIRUT/GENEVA (Reuters) - Syria's army command announced a ceasefire on Thursday to mark the Muslim holiday of Eid al Adha but said it reserved the right to respond to any rebel attack or moves to reinforce President Bashar al-Assad's armed foes.

A Free Syrian Army commander gave qualified backing to the truce, proposed by U.N.-Arab League envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, but demanded Assad free detainees. An Islamist group said it was not committed to the truce but may halt operations if the army did.

Brahimi proposed the temporary truce to stem, however briefly, the bloodshed in a conflict which erupted as popular protests in March last year and has escalated into a civil war which activists say has killed more than 32,000 people.

The fighting pits mainly Sunni Muslim rebels against Assad, from the Alawite faith which is linked to Shi'ite Islam, and threatens to draw in regional Sunni Muslim and Shi'ite powers and engulf the whole Middle East, Brahimi has warned.

"On the occasion of the blessed Eid al-Adha, the general command of the army and armed forces announces a halt to military operations on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, from Friday morning ... until Monday," an army statement read on state television said.

It reserved the right to respond if "the armed terrorist groups open fire on civilians and government forces, attack public and private properties, or use car bombs and explosives".

It would also respond to any reinforcement or re-supplying of rebel units, or smuggling of fighters from neighboring countries "in violation of their international commitments to combat terrorism".

Qassem Saadeddine, head of the military council in Homs province and spokesman for the FSA joint command, said his fighters were committed to the truce.

"But we not allow the regime to reinforce its posts. We demand the release of the detainees, the regime should release them by tomorrow morning," he said.

Abu Moaz, spokesman for Ansar al-Islam, said the Islamist group doubted Assad's forces would observe the truce, though it might suspend operations if they did.

"We do not care about this truce. We are cautious. If the tanks are still there and the checkpoints are still there then what is the truce?" he said of the organization, which includes several brigades fighting in the capital and Damascus province.

Brahimi's predecessor, former U.N. chief Kofi Annan, declared a ceasefire in Syria on April 12, but it soon became a dead letter, along with the rest of his six-point peace plan.

Violence has intensified since then, with daily death tolls compiled by opposition monitoring groups often exceeding 200.

UN SEES AID WINDOW

U.N. aid agencies have geared up to take advantage of any window of opportunity provided by a ceasefire to go to areas that have been difficult to reach due to fighting, a U.N. official in Geneva said.

"UN agencies have been preparing rapidly to scale up especially in areas that have been difficult to reach due to active conflict and which may become accessible as a result of these developments," he told Reuters.

The U.N. refugee agency UNHCR said that it had prepared emergency kits for distribution for up to 13,000 families - an estimated 65,000 people - in previously inaccessible areas including Homs and the northeastern city of Hassaka.

"We and our partners want to be in a position to move quickly if security allows over the next few days," UNHCR Syria Representative Tarik Kurdi in Damascus said in a statement.

The U.N. World Food Programme has identified 90,000 people in 21 hotspots from Aleppo to Homs and Latakia in need food parcels and will try to reach them through local agencies, the U.N. official said.

ALEPPO FIGHTING

Earlier on Thursday rebels seized two northern districts in Syria's largest city, Aleppo, on Thursday, activists said.

"We have just liberated Ashrafiyeh and the Syriac quarter," a rebel fighter said, referring to areas which had been held by Kurdish militias and troops loyal to President Bashar al-Assad.

Rebels were still fighting around the Rahman Mosque district and trying to besiege a security building, he added.

Activists said at least 14 people were killed. It was not clear if the dead were fighters or civilians.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition group monitoring the Syrian conflict, said Kurdish units were still fighting to stop the rebels from entering Ashrafiyeh.

Battles have engulfed Aleppo since late July, but a stalemate had developed, with snipers restricting movement of fighters and the two sides largely entrenched on frontlines.

China urged all sides to respect a ceasefire, an idea also backed by Syria's main regional ally Iran,

Top UN official hopes Syria cease-fire takes place

(AP) ? A top U.N. official says he hopes that the U.N.-brokered cease-fire in Syria will take place, but he warns that there are no guarantees it will hold.

The 15-nation U.N. Security Council endorsed the idea of a temporary truce, proposed by the U.N.-Arab League envoy to Syria with the aim of setting up talks on ending the country's 19-month-old conflict.

"We hope that they both realize the importance of a pause in the fighting ... in the symbolic quieting the silence of the guns," said Jan Eliasson Eliasson, the U.N. Deputy Secretary-General. "But the most important thing is that it could perhaps create a political environment, where political talks are possible," he said Thursday.

Lakhdar Brahimi, the envoy, has warned that the failure of yet another U.N. cease-fire plan would only worsen the fighting.

Lactation protein suppresses tumors and metastasis in breast cancer

When protein is absent, normal cells become more like stem cells, morphing into cancer cells and resulting in metastasis and increased morbidity

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A protein that is necessary for lactation in mammals inhibits the critical cellular transition that is an early indicator of breast cancer and metastasis, according to research conducted at the University at Buffalo and Princeton University and highlighted as the cover paper in November issue of Nature Cell Biology.

"This is the first confirmed report that this protein, called Elf5, is a tumor suppressor in breast cancer," explains Satrajit Sinha, PhD, associate professor of biochemistry in the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and a corresponding author on the paper with Yibin Kang, PhD, in the Department of Molecular Biology at Princeton University.

Photos of Sinha and the cover of Nature Cell Biology are available here: http://www.buffalo.edu/news/13766.

The researchers say the findings provide new avenues to pursue in treating and diagnosing breast cancer and possibly cancers of other organs as well. The paper includes findings from both animal and human breast cancer models.

Under normal circumstances, Elf5 is a transcription factor that controls the genes that allow for milk production.

But when the researchers used knockout mice developed at UB, in whom Elf5 was removed, they found more than just an inability to produce milk. They found that epithelial cells in the mammary glands also became more mesenchymal, that is, more like stem cells, an early harbinger of cancer, Sinha says.

"We found that when Elf5 levels are low or absent, epithelial cells become more like stem cells, morphing into mesenchymal cells, changing their shape and appearance and migrating elsewhere in the body," says Sinha. "This is how cancer spreads."

The UB-Princeton collaboration began when lead author Rumela Chakrabarti, PhD, originally a postdoctoral researcher in Sinha's laboratory at UB, took a position in the laboratory of Yibin Kang, PhD, Warner-Lambert/Parke-Davis Professor of Molecular Biology at Princeton, whose research focus is breast cancer metastasis. This allowed Chakrabarti to harness the expertise of the two laboratories to generate such a breakthrough finding.

"Elf5 keeps normal breast cells in their current shape and restricts their movement," says Chakrabarti. She found that the protein accomplishes this by suppressing the epithelial-mesenchymal transition by directly repressing transcription of Snail2, a master regulator of mammary stem cells known to trigger the EMT.

"Elf5 keeps Snail2 repressed, but once Elf5 is lost, then there is nothing to repress Snail 2," she explains.

The paper notes that Elf5 loss is frequently detected early in the disease at the breast hyperplasia stage, when the number of cells increases. In experiments conducted by the Princeton scientists, the researchers also found that little or no Elf5 in human breast cancer samples correlated with increased morbidity.

"It seems that loss of Elf5 is an initial event in the disease, so it could also be an important diagnostic tool," Sinha notes, which is a current focus of the UB and Princeton team.

"We want to know, how early does the loss of Elf5 occur? Could we use loss of Elf5 as a reliable diagnostic tool?" he asks.

The finding reveals the complex pathways through which breast cancers develop, he says, while also providing new avenues to pursue for diagnostics and treatments.

"Our research shows that the EMT-Snail 2 pathway is a valuable one to target for early breast cancer intervention," says Sinha, "possibly by designing something to recapture the repressive effect of Elf5 or a drug that could mimic Elf5 activity. And this is just one molecule, part of a big network. That's why we are now creating a detailed map of this molecule and its associated partners in order to give us a better idea of what to look for."

iPad Mini vs. the new (and newer) iPad: what's different?

DNP iPad Mini vs thirdgen iPad what's different

We've all known that iPad prototypes of every shape and size reside inside Apple's design lab, but few of us believed we'd ever see one on store shelves. Of course, when the rumor machine leapt into top gear, it seemed that Apple had relaxed its legendary stance on "tweener tablets." Now Tim Cook and chums have whipped the covers from the iPad Mini, it's time to delve inside.

Given that this is an entirely new product from the company, we thought we'd stack it up against the third and fourth generation iPads -- the latter coming out just seven months after we threw down cash on the former. That way, we can identify what compromises and concessions have been made to squeeze the iPad experience into a smaller body. Join us after the break to to take part in the stats extravaganza, but excuse us if we're a little distracted -- we're still suffering from concussion where Apple kicked all of us third-generation iPad owners in the teeth.

Futurity.org ? After cancer, exercise eases swollen limbs

After reviewing studies on how cancer survivors with lymphedema can manage their symptoms, the researchers recommend full-body exercise and a comprehensive treatment called complete decongestive therapy (CDT). (Credit: Veer)

U. MISSOURI / VANDERBILT / NYU (US) ? New research identifies the two best options for managing a chronic swelling condition that affects almost 40 percent of breast cancer survivors.

A cure for lymphedema does not exist, so individuals with the condition must find ways to manage the symptoms throughout their lifetimes. The condition causes body limbs to swell from fluid buildup as a result of lymph node removal and radiation therapy.

Now, a team of researchers and clinicians working with a University of Missouri lymphedema expert has found that full-body exercise and complete decongestive therapy (CDT) are the best ways for patients to minimize their symptoms and maintain their quality of life.

?There?s a sense of empowerment?of autonomy?that comes from meeting the challenge of living with lymphedema,? says Jane Armer, nursing professor.

?Some breast cancer survivors say that they?ve become a new person after cancer because they met a challenge, and they like the stronger person they?ve become. The challenge of lymphedema is similar. It?s something that is pervasive in every part of life. It takes problem solving and persistence to manage the condition without letting it interfere with their goals.?

Armer and her colleagues reviewed published research about lymphedema self-management in order to determine which practices were most effective in managing the condition.

The researchers found that full-body exercise, such as weight lifting and stretching, was likely to be effective in minimizing lymphedema symptoms.

In addition, the researchers concluded that complete decongestive therapy (CDT), a comprehensive treatment approach that incorporates skin care, exercise, manual lymphatic drainage and bandaging of swollen limbs, also helps patients effectively manage the condition.

?Previous research suggests that, the earlier the interventions, the better the outcomes,? Armer says. ?If patients can learn how to successfully manage the condition early on, then they can continue those processes throughout their lives, and their outcomes will be better than those of individuals who resist participating in self-care.?

Armer is a professor in the MU Sinclair School of Nursing and director of nursing research at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center. The literature review is published in Nursing Research, and was led by nurse colleagues Sheila Ridner of Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, and Mei Fu, associate professor at New York University College of Nursing.

China leftists urge parliament not to expel Bo Xilai

BEIJING (Reuters) - A group of Chinese leftists has issued a public letter calling on the country's largely rubber stamp parliament not to expel disgraced former top leader Bo Xilai from its ranks, saying the move is legally questionable and politically motivated.

Stripping membership from Bo - the one-time Communist Party chief of Chongqing who is accused of abusing power, taking huge bribes and other crimes - also removes his immunity from prosecution, and paves the way for formal charges against him.

Bo's ouster has exposed deep rifts in the party between his leftist backers, who are nostalgic for the revolutionary era of Mao Zedong, and reformers, who advocate for faster political and economic reforms.

The letter, carried on the far-left Chinese-language website "Red China" and addressed to the parliament's standing committee, says the party is fuelling doubts about the accusations against Bo by refusing to discuss them publicly.

"What is the reason provided for expelling Bo Xilai? Please investigate the facts and the evidence," says the letter. "Please announce to the people evidence that Bo Xilai will be able to defend himself in accordance with the law."

Parliament and its members are there to provide oversight and make laws, not to "act as a rubber stamp" for attacks on people for personal reasons by political factions, it added.

Since Bo was ousted in March, he has not been seen in public and has not been allowed to answer the accusations against him. At a news conference days before his removal, Bo rejected as "filth" and "nonsense" the then unspecified allegations against him and his family.

The once high-flying Bo now faces a criminal investigation that stems from the murder of British businessman Neil Heywood in Chongqing last year. Bo will almost certainly be jailed, following the imprisonment of Bo's wife Gu Kailai and his former police chief Wang Lijun.

The letter said there were still many doubts over the Heywood case, including how the defendants were allowed to defend themselves and the shortness of the two court cases.

"Is this not a big joke we are playing on the world when we have been telling people left, right and center that we are a country with rule of law?"

"Red China", which has issued a torrent of commentary defending Bo, is blocked to the many Chinese users who do not know how to evade censorship barriers, and the letter is likely to fall on deaf ears in any case.

Parliament's standing committee, its top decision making body, meets for four days from Tuesday and is expected to throw Bo out of parliament, removing another hurdle for the smooth handling of a generational leadership transfer kicking off at a key party congress next month.

Bo, 63, was widely seen as pursuing a powerful spot in the new political line-up before his career unraveled after his former police chief fled to a U.S. consulate for more than 24 hours in February and alleged that Bo's wife Gu had poisoned Heywood to death.

After his appointment as party chief of Chongqing in 2007, Bo, a former commerce minister, turned it into a showcase of revolution-inspired "red" culture and his policies for egalitarian, state-led growth. He also won national attention with a crackdown on organized crime.

His brash self-promotion irked some leaders. But his populist ways and crime clean-up were welcomed by many of Chongqing's 30 million residents, as well as others who hoped that Bo could take his leftist-shaded policies nationwide.

His likely trial could still stir that ideological contention. China's party-run courts rarely find in favour of defendants, especially in politically-sensitive cases.

(The story corrects 13th paragraph to change length of meeting to four days, date of opening of meeting to Tuesday.)

Donal E. Clark Has Been Charged With Murder After Girlfriend Goes ...

A Cook County judge refused bail Sunday for the boyfriend of a missing Calumet City woman after a prosecutor described the bloody scene at her home where police said they found him Wednesday.

Assistant State?s Attorney Angela Carlisle also said Donal E. Clark, 42, spoke on the phone with his brother while in police custody and talked about telling police where they could find Gena Chiodo?s body ?as long as he could get a deal.?

After court Clark?s attorney said he?s disappointed Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil chose to hold his client without bail. He made no prediction as to how Clark will plea Tuesday when he?s expected back in court. He said only that defendants are innocent until proven guilty.

Meanwhile, a man who would describe himself only as a spokesman for Chiodo?s family expressed his gratitude to investigators who have tried to locate her after she went missing last week.

?We wish the Clark family will show mercy on us and let us know where Gena is so we can put her to rest,? he said.

Authorities announced Saturday Clark had been charged with first-degree murder and concealment of a homicide in connection with Chiodo?s disappearance.

Chiodo, 42, was last heard from Oct. 13. Patty Nasella, a longtime family friend, has said she believed Chiodo?s relationship with her boyfriend of 13 months was dysfunctional. She said Chiodo wished her a happy birthday when they talked on the phone Oct. 13.

The next day, Nasella said she texted Chiodo to invite her out for dinner but never heard back.

Calumet City Police went to Chiodo?s home Wednesday in the 1300 block of Price Avenue after her co-workers and friends said they were worried because Chiodo hadn?t shown up for work for three straight days, Carlisle said.

Police repeatedly knocked on the door, she said, until they saw the curtains inside the home move. They forced their way in and found Clark coming out of a back bedroom. Carlisle said they searched the home but didn?t find Chiodo.

Instead, Carlisle said, they found blood spatter on the walls, desk and treadmill in a first-floor room used as an office and weight room. They found blood under the toilet bowl in a first-floor bathroom that smelled of bleach, was missing a shower curtain and seemed to have been recently cleaned.

There was blood on a comforter, pillow and towel in the first-floor master bedroom, the prosecutor said, and a small pool of blood was on a carpet inside the back-door landing.

Upstairs police found a large mirror had been broken in another bedroom. There was a broken picture frame and part of a bloody shower curtain rod in the kitchen. Officers also found a bucket and mop and an empty bottle of bleach.

In the garbage cans behind the house Carlisle said police found a rug with a large blood stain on it, a bloody lingerie skirt, a broken necklace and ashtray and pieces of broken furniture, a plastic shower curtain covered in blood, two broken cell phones with SIM cards missing, broken picture frames and a bloody bath mat.

Clark told police he and Chiodo had a fight Oct. 14 and he went to sleep, Carlisle said. When he woke up at noon he said Chiodo was gone and he hadn?t seen her since.

However, the prosecutor said Clark?s license plate was run by Chicago police that day at 105th and Michigan at about 9:55 a.m., contradicting his statement.

Chiodo?s car was still in the driveway when police searched the house, Carlisle said. Her clothes and shoes were still in her closet. Police also found her birth certificate and Social Security card, and several of her credit cards were in a shredder in the kitchen.

Her car keys were in a pair of men?s gym shoes that had blood on the soles and toe areas, the prosecutor said.

Clark had a phone conversation with his brother after his arrest on Thursday, Carlisle said. He said he woke up and Chiodo was in his arms, covered in blood, and he said he tried to give her mouth-to-mouth.

That?s also when the prosecutor said Clark talked about telling police where to find the body in exchange for a deal.

Clark has previously been convicted of two armed robberies and residential burglary, Carlisle said. He also has a 2011 domestic battery conviction for punching a former girlfriend in the face. The victim in that case ? for which Carlisle said he?s still serving conditional discharge ? said he threatened to kill her several times.

After court Sunday Clark?s attorney, Michael O?Meara, said the hearing was the first time he heard the ?serious allegations? prosecutors are making against his client. He said he wanted the judge to set bail, which would give Clark a chance to get out of jail.

?We are disappointed in the judge?s decision,? O?Meara said. ?However, we respect the judge?s decision.?

The Skinny on Being a Successful SAHM | Skinny Mom | Tips for ...

I have been fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom for about 3 years now. I will be honest, it?is not always?butterfly & rainbows; several days I say to myself, ?Maybe it would be easier if I just went and got a JOB!? Well, that thought only lasts as long as the current?temper tantrum and then?I?m back to reality. I LOVE staying home with my kids and I could not imagine life any other way.

Over the last 3 years, I have struggled to find a good routine that makes life as a stay-at-home?a little easier. I can say that I have finally figured?out?what it takes to be a Successful Stay-At-Home Mom!

  • Get up before everyone else does! Yes I know, this is a very tough one but it is SO important. Get up before the rest of the family and get your?mind organized and ready to tackle the day.??Get up early enough to compose your?To Do list, exercise, shower/get ready, and anything else you prefer to do before the rest of the house wakes up!
  • Take a shower DAILY/ preferably in the morning! This may sound a little silly, but as moms we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves and actually take 15?minutes to shower each day. Some of you may be thinking, ?What?s the point? I am going to be covered in spit-up or green beans by noon!??Taking a shower first thing in the morning is a great way to get woken up, feeling refreshed?and ready to begin the day! The worst that will happen is you might?have to take another one?at night to wash away the day?s disasters!
  • Exercise daily/?(again) preferably in the morning! Get up and get your daily exercise routine over with. If you are anything like me, the earlier the better.?Being a mom and taking care of kids?is exhausting and by the end of the day the last thing I want to do is workout (I?ve been ?working out? all day right!?!) Plus, working out in the morning gets your metabolism going and actually gives you more energy throughout the day! Check out: 5 Reasons Why Working Out In The Morning Makes Sense When Trying to Lose Weight.
  • Get out of your PJ?s! Yes I know, they are comfortable and you are just going to be at the house so why change clothes, right?!? Wrong! I am not saying you have to get dressed up in skinny jeans and high heels every day, but just get out of your pajamas! Put on a some cute workout?clothes or even a?sassy pair of sweatpants, but I repeat ?GET OUT OF YOUR PJ?S!? Pajamas are associated with bedtime, therefore, the longer you wear them the longer you will have the sleepy feeling.
  • Make money while you stay home with the kids! There are so many companies out there designed for stay-at-home or working moms. I.E. Mary Kay, Avon, Pure Romance, Youngevity, the list goes on.. Find something that interests you and make money while doing it. I chose Youngevity because I am interested in health and wellness and I LOVED their product. I started out just wanting to make enough to pay for our household vitamins and other supplements & before I knew it, I?was making a real income; almost as much as?I made?with my previous full-time job.?Another option to make money, babysit a couple of kids at your house or sell something you enjoy making. Just find something that?interests you and make money off of it!?Your husband will be happy! :)
  • Eat healthy & Take Vitamins! As moms, it is like we are constantly running a marathon! I don?t know about you, but I would not be able to get through the day if i did not eat healthy and take vitamins! I choose to eat 5 small meals a day opposed to 3 large meals, and I take vitamins to ensure that I am getting all 90 essential nutrients my body needs! Check out my previous post Get the Skinny on Vitamins That Work!
  • Get some ?YOU? time while the kids nap! The most popular advice you get when you are pregnant or just had a baby is ?Sleep when the baby?sleeps!? or ??Get as much done as you can while the kids?nap???Yes, I agree with both of these BUT I also think it is a great?opportunity to enjoy some ?YOU? time! Stay-at-home moms often think they need to get EVERYTHING done in the 1-3 hours that the kids are asleep. I suggest: read a book (not brown bear, brown bear) a real ADULT book, take a hot afternoon bath, catch up on your favorite T.V. show, call a friend, go to the bathroom by yourself:), be creative! Whatever you choose to do is up to you, but try not to always use nap time to clean, clean, clean, remember?we need our sanity just as much as we need a clean house (if not more)!
  • Join a Mommy & Me playgroup! I would say that one of the most common complaints I hear from other SAHMs is: lack of adult interaction. By joining a Mommy & Me playgroup, you get adult interaction while the kiddos get to socialize with others their age. Also, it gets you out of the house and involved in things that you may not know about if it weren?t for your involvement with the group. Try out a couple of Mommy & Me groups around your area, and pick the one that you fill the most connection with.
  • Ask for help/ take a break! As moms, we often think we can do it all, we are SUPER MOM! Yes, you may be super mom but even super mom needs a break from time-to-time! Ask hubby to take the kids for a night and go get a little pampering done or meet an old friend for dinner. Grandparents are usually more than happy to watch the kids for a couple of hours, get out for a much needed date night with your husband and?enjoy some adult only time!
  • Look at the bright side of EVERY DAY! This is the most important tip I can offer! ?Not every day is a good day, but there?s something good in every day!?~Author Unknown.?We often focus on what is going wrong in our day, next time focus on what is going right and try to look on the bright side! Kids feed off of adult?s mood/ attitude, if you stay positive chances are they will too!

Being a stay-at-home mom is not always easy, but if you?follow the?tips above you CAN be a ?Successful Stay-At-Home Mom!? Please share some of your experiences or tips on being a stay-at-home mom!

So tell us again why the city needs to buy more land for affordable ...

Those of you who have been following the soap opera that is the rejeuvenation of Point Breeze ? or its ruin, depending on who you ask ? no doubt have heard that its district Councilman, Kenyatta Johnson, is pushing a bill to have the city buy a bunch of vacant lots in a hurry in order to land-bank them for affordable housing. Or something like that. And this in an area where both the local community development corporation and private builders have had little trouble building both market-rate and affordable houses that sell.

Or do they? According to this post on Philadelinquency, the city appears to have some affordable housing on its hands that it wants to unload already:

So now we at least have an idea of what constitutes ?affordable housing? in the city of Philadelphia. Which made it a bit of a surprise when we learned from our housemate that we currently live in ?affordable housing? in Oxford Circle. We don?t think he thinks of it as such, either, but it?s certainly in that price range.

We did a quick search on Trulia just now for homes for sale citywide, priced between $80,000 and $150,000 ? we figure anything below $80k is probably at best a fixer-upper. We found 5,860 properties for sale in that price range. Of these, 1,789 are single-family houses, townhouses, condos or co-ops ? the kinds of properties people talk about when talking ?affordable housing.? 118 of those (out of a total of 148 homes for sale at $80,000 and up) are located in that Lower Northeast neighborhood, and 46 (out of 119 for sale at any price above $80,000) are in Point Breeze.

We don?t know about you, but that sure doesn?t sound like a crisis in the making to us. So tell us again: What?s the rush? Where?s the fire?

Increase Your Profits With These Internet Marketing Tips | Rich ...

Sometimes, you have a light-bulb moment and get hit with a great new business idea. Do not get into business without researching the market first and planning your marketing strategy in details. Use the tips and advice offered below to ensure that you are prepared for that moment.

Creating your own niche is critical to your success at Internet marketing; you won?t find long-term success by emulating your competition. Search engine filters are becoming ever more proficient at locating redundant content. Plagiarized content may help you one day and hurt you the next. Unique content is not only required, it will also give your articles more page views which in turn will make you more successful.

Give a lot of choices to people when they check-out. A customer can add another product for a discount as a thank you. This is excellent for getting rid of excess inventory and also to help boost sales, while letting your customers feel appreciated.

If you have information you?re giving away for free, take advantage of the online services that market such information. For example, if you write a free e-zine, submit it to different e-zine directories. Do not forget about online encyclopedias, site directories, guides and sites such as Google Places where you can list your business.

Try including a survey or poll to measure how a reader feel about content on your site. Polls provide an easy way to keep your content fresh, while giving customers an opportunity to let their voices be heard.

Address any complaints personally. You should strive to handle all customer complaints yourself as this way you know when they have been resolved. If you have a complaint, be sure you personally address their concern, and work with them.

Internet marketing is not just exclusively on the internet. For instance, you may want to host in-person gatherings or conferences for bloggers with whom you regularly interact. Knowing your market cannot be underestimated, so use your blog and the online community to get to know the other players and customers that are out there.

Have sections or a large hub for your products so that visitors can easily find them. You should look to have a structured page that offers a good variety of products and services.

Before you focus on building your web business, you first need to focus on the particular niche you?ll be catering to. A fan of Star Wars memorabilia will have little interest in buying classic baseball cards. People have specific interests, and if they are looking for baseball cards, there a limited number of places they are likely to look. Knowing who is interested in the product you are selling and spending your effort on attracting them to your business is the smart thing to do.

Offer something free with your business name and logo on it. For example, if you have written an e-book and want to offer that, submit it to a site that promotes them. Many websites advertise free products, and they?ll advertise yours if you notify them.

Keep in contact with your customers after making a sale. Have them leave a review or answer a survey a few days after purchasing.

Learn how to employ HTML tags if you want the best optimization results. Tags are used to emphasize certain content and make it stand out from the rest of the text. Search engine spiders determine where to place your website based on whats shown by these tags. It?s important, then, to emphasize the keywords that are most essential for your SEO.

A unique way of doing internet marketing is to use image searches. Adding images that are relevant to your particular website may result in increasing interest for your content due to the exposure your website will get besides searches from text alone. Visitors who might just be looking for information sometimes end up looking through your site. Once they have been to your site and are familiar with your brand, they are more apt to visit again in the future.

If customers spend above a certain amount, you should offer them additional discounts to maximize basket size. One example is to give a 10% discount on purchases over $100. An offer like this can be quite irresistible when it comes to purchasing your products.

You need to put yourself in a position to succeed and that is what was discussed in this article. These tips should allow you to be in a position to move forward on a plan of your own, so make sure you utilize them. With some hard work and a lot of research, your business can succeed.

All fitness and weightloss related programs tend to be not created the same. It is usually advisabale to look for one that will be nutritionally sound. The Visalus ingredients
included in each Visalus meal replacement drink help make that task a done deal.
