1. Meeting, consulting, and helping people

The main thing that psychologists do every single day is meeting with people. If you enjoy talking to human beings about their lives and problems then this is a great career for you. You?ll be sitting down, trying to make them as comfortable as possible and figuring out what?s happening in their life.

Not only are you going to be helping your patients, but they will be helping you. Since psychology is a relatively new field and we?re learning more about the human brain each day, you will be learning more as you help your own patients.

Where a psychiatrist would be looking to see what medications they can provide, you will be learning more about the human psyche and trying to hypothesize how simple conversation can help to aid your patient.

2. Diagnosing and treating the patient

Once you have learned what?s happening with your patient, or you feel like you have enough knowledge to treat them in a variety of ways, you will proceed to do that using your expertise.

By reading theories and research papers after you have completed your doctorate and become a licensed psychologist, you will know much more than what you gathered in school. This is important because psychology doesn?t know everything about the human brain or psyche yet.

Since there are so many different things to know about psychology, it?s difficult to know which comes first and in what order should you attempt to treat your patients. There is a definite personal preference when it comes to psychology, as some people believe what others do not.

All in all this is a fantastic career and job choice for anybody who loves to help others, and understand the science and theory behind people. Why we act the way we act, and learning more about our internal dialogue.
