HARVEY, La. -- Many people marched down Destrehan Avenue in Harvey in memory of 6-year-old Ahlittia North on Sunday.
North was found stabbed to death in a trash can near her home.
There's now a sea of stuffed animals at her former apartment. The community once again marched to show their support for the little girl's family. Her mother, Lisa, urged parents to hug their children extra tight.
Parish leaders want North's murder to make people take a stand against violence.
?I think you see here today that people are coming together,? said Jefferson Parish President John Young. ?We just need to keep that unity against crime and against the violence that's affecting our entire metropolitan area.?
Matthew Flugence, 20, is facing a first-degree murder charge in North's murder.
