Manny Pacquiao, who is noted in the Philippines not only as a boxing legend but also as a prominent politician, has staked out a position firmly against the family-planning legislation now pending before the legislature.
Pacquiao, who is now a member of that legislature, opposes the bill, which would require sex-education classes in schools and state funding for contraceptives. While the current government argues that urgent measures are required to curb the Filipino birth rate, Pacquiao argues that families should have more children.
